Similar to you, when someone looks on the outside of my life, they may think "wow, this guy is so successful". Yeah, maybe. But, they don't see all the "blood, sweat, and tears" it took to get there. Earning my own doctorate degree was no easy task. Thank goodness that creating, organizing, and leading college classes as a professor is one of my special interests--I don't think I'd have the motivation without it.
Another great post! I loved the video version too. Both were very informative, inspiring, and humorous.
Thank you so much! Wow, I'm jealous of your motivation for teaching. If I had that, I would have far less struggles in academia. But I guess it's always give and take, I'm still figuring out what works for me, besides comics 😅 (for now). Cheers!
I think because of my AuDHD I am so curious, focused on patterns, and lucky to teach on topics that excite me, I have this motivation. Believe me, I couldn't do what I do if I had to teach boring (to me) subjects like accounting or mathematics. I teach mostly on the US Healthcare system which is always changing, lots of current events, and lots to discuss.
That's pretty cool! I have also taught subjects on topics that interest me in linguistics, but I just dislike giving grades to people and all the organizational work that goes into teaching. I only liked giving the class itself on the day. The rest of the process didn't feel as exciting. But maybe the biggest problem is having to switch between teaching and research tasks without being able to hyperfocus on research, which is the only time I get something done.
Thank you for sharing this, its great to see Joy is being taken more into account for everyones life challenges.
Thanks! Yes, I don't think we can get far without looking for what brings us joy.
Thanks, Ana.

Don't remind me of grading!🙂. Yeah, that's my least favorite part.
