Hello curious minds,
Thank you for signing up for Language Explained, where we tackle big questions about how language works. Most of the articles so far have been written by me (Ana Krajinović) and I am also the editor of this publication, but we welcome any contributions about language by linguists, as long as the topic has broader relevance for the field and for non-linguists.
Fieldwork Is a “Hero’s Journey” of Linguistics: What Can You Learn From It? is my newest article and it has just been featured on Medium’s homepage! This article is based on my personal experience of doing linguistic fieldwork in Vanuatu and for that reason, the story is written in a more personal tone, which we don’t often see in science. But we need it, we are human after all!
If you missed any of the older articles, here is the list of our posts so far, enjoy!
Do All Languages Have Adjectives? (Rose Hoersting)
Researching Language You Said? (Ana Krajinović)
Language Explained (Ana Krajinović)
And if you like what I write about here, check out my other two publications: Ana’s stories and Bedtime stories for adults and children.
Thank you all and happy reading!
Ana
